Dr Au Eong is an accomplished ophthalmologist with a diverse educational background and extensive experience in the field. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1989, followed by a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 1995. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Academy of Medicine in Singapore, as well as a Diplomate and member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London.

After completing six years of ophthalmology training in Singapore, Dr Au Eong pursued additional fellowship training in vitreous and retina diseases and surgery at the University of Manchester and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the UK, and the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US.

Dr Au Eong has served as Head and Senior Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Alexandra Hospital, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Deputy Director and Head of Research at The Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group.
