Professional Profile:

Dr Karmen Wong is a medical oncologist with over 20 years of clinical practice. She received her oncology training at the National University Hospital (NUH), National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCC), and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) under the HMDP scholarship, where she gained extensive knowledge in health sciences research and patient care.

Dr Wong played a pivotal role in establishing the first multidisciplinary breast cancer treatment in Singapore at NCC two decades ago, providing a platform for treatment in other cancer types with doctors from different disciplines. In 1997, she initiated the bone marrow transplant program for solid tumors at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and won an award for her oral presentation at the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting at SGH in 1988.

Currently, Dr Wong runs a robust cancer support network in her practice and serves as a co-investigator in various clinical trials on new cancer treatments, including the CompLEEment-1 trial study presented at the American Society of Medical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) meetings in 2019 and 2018, respectively.

Dr Wong has also presented the first Asian study on attitudes towards breast cancer treatment among Asian patients at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 1999. She has written numerous peer-reviewed articles and published chapters in textbooks and lectures on cancer treatment updates in the ASEAN regions. Dr Wong’s contributions to cancer research and treatment have made her an esteemed figure in the field of oncology.
